1974
Company Founded
- James E. Bennett founded Automation Tool and Die, Inc.
1976
New Location
- The company relocated to a 1,800-sq.-ft. facility at 11897 Bellaire Road in Cleveland, Ohio.
1984
Moved to a Larger Facility
- ATD moved into a new 6,200-sq.-ft. facility at 2867 Nationwide Parkway in Brunswick, Ohio.
1989
Expanded Capabilities
- An 8,600-sq.-ft. expansion was completed to accommodate stamping equipment, as ATD entered into the metal stamping industry.
1995
More Services Added
- Began assembly of stamped parts with other components.
1997
Facility Extension
- Completed a 12,000-ft. extension in the stamping production facility.
1999
Warehouse Facility Added
- Office facilities were expanded to 4,000 sq. ft. and a 10,000-sq.-ft. warehouse facility was added.
2000
Growth Milestones Reached
- Total area of all facilities reached 41,000 sq. ft., with 35 full-time employees.
2001
Production & Quality Improvements
- Implementation of MRP Systems was completed. Pursuit of QS-9000 started.
2002
Second Generation in Leadership
- With the passing of Founder James Bennett, leadership of ATD passed to the second generation: Bill and Randy Bennett.
2003
Quality Milestone Achieved
- Opened distribution center and started TS-16949 Quality Management System.
2004
Planning for Future Growth
- Added 600-ton Minster Straight Side with 32-inch feed line and a 20,000 coil capacity.
- Purchased building and land adjacent to our current facility to allow for a new toolroom facility and give ATD space for further growth.
2005
Capabilities Expanded Again
- Moved toolroom to new, state-of-the-art facility.
- Designed, built, and began production on an automated tapping, insert press, as well as a 100% inspection machine for our Japanese transplant customers.
2006-08
Value-Added Services Grow
- ATD began adding special machines to increase our value-added capabilities. These included our 500 and 600 ton presses, which increased stamping capabilities.
2009
Weathered an Economic Downturn
- ATD, like the rest of the world, experienced the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression.
2010
Capabilities Continue to Grow
- Added another special assembly machine in the Value-Added Department.
- Added a vibratory deburring department with multiple lines.
2011-12
Investments in Services & Software
- Added Orbital Riveting to our Value-Added Department.
- Added multiple seats of a new 3D software package.
2013
Growth Milestones Achieved
- ATD's team is now comprised of 70 full-time employees at four facilities.
- Added AIDA 300 Ton Servo Press.
2015
New Facility Planned
- Increased warehouse capacity by 5,000 sq. ft. (reaching 15,000 sq. ft.) and added Servo Weld Cell, Mig/Tig, Assembly to Value-Added Services.
- Designed and broke ground on facility consolidation project to move out of four facilities into one facility (102,000 sq. ft. on more than 22 acres) that enables future growth.
2016
Equipment & Technology Upgrades
- Added robotic press tending on two new AIDA 275 ton presses.
- Built and moved entire operation into new facilities.
- Added AIDA 700 Ton Servo Press.
2017
Quality & Workflow Efficiencies
- Implemented new efficiencies: workflow, material handling, network technology.
- Registered to the new IATF 16949 Quality Management System Standard (one of the first in the United States).
2019
Value-Added & Transfer Services Added
- Added 10 Station Programmable Servo Projection Welder to increase value-added capabilities.
- Added the ability to take on transfer jobs to facilitate reshoring and tooling support for automotive customers.
2020
Software Investments
- Added Hexagon Absolute Scanning Arm and reverse engineering software.
- Invested in upgrade of 3D CAD and CAM software packages.
2021
Added Innovation
- Started automation & integration of Robot & HAAS pallet changer.
2022
Refined Leadership Strategy
- Added additional 2-ton crane to increase capacity in toolroom.
- Replaced and upgraded all server equipment and back-up systems.
- Bill Bennett acquires 100% ownership of ATD and completes a strategic leadership realignment.
2023
Continued Innovation
- Added HAAS VF-9/50, substantially increasing ATD’s capabilities.
- Invests in Tote Goats ergonomic material handling.
- Added 200T Minster press and feedline.
- Added deburring line and automated debur/finishing equipment.
- Employees experience improvement projects, including outdoor patio and landscaping upgrades.
- Completes full web and digital relaunch.
